Track Down, Organize, and Destroy Data

Just where exactly are my photos? Why do I have so little space on my hard drive? Where should I put my giant music and video files? – If you're asking yourself these questions more and more, it's high time you cleaned up your PC. If you don't keep your PC tidy, you'll lose an overall view of your files as well as valuable disk space, and before long you'll see performance drop. This newsletter will show you how to use the clever tools in TuneUp Utilities™ 2011 to manage your files and securely delete unnecessary or sensitive data – guaranteed.

Step 1 : Onward to your data overview!
TuneUp Disk Space Explorer makes it easy for you to find out what file types are loading down your hard drive the most. Just start TuneUp Utilities™ 2011, click the category "Gain disk space", then click on "Find and delete large amounts of data" to start TuneUp Disk Space Explorer. Check off each drive that you want to include in the overview, click on "Next", and soon after you'll get your data overview:

By the way, you can also get a complete overview by clicking the category "File types". Then to find out what files exist for a specific data type, just click on that entry. This will let you quickly determine what file types are making the most demands on your hard drive so you can take whatever action is necessary.

Step 2 : Find the 100 biggest disk hogs!
If your disk space is constantly at its limit, you should immediately locate the biggest files on your hard drive. Just start TuneUp Disk Space Explorer as described above and click on the category "Top 100 files". Then decide if you really still need all of those old videos and music from last year, or any other huge memory hogs. If not, just select those entries and use your delete key to immediately delete them in TuneUp Disk Space Explorer. Or keep reading and you'll see how you can destroy this data securely and for good.

Step 3 : Destroy sensitive data for good!
So you found some files in Disk Space Explorer that absolutely no one should get their hands on? Don't panic! Just use TuneUp Shredder and you'll irreversibly destroy those files so well that not even data recovery programs or PC professionals can restore them. TuneUp Shredder is especially useful when you want to sell your PC or replace your hard drive.
To launch the final data liquidation, just click on "File" then "Settings" in Disk Space Explorer. Switch over to the category "Deletion method" and select "TuneUp Shredder: Gutmann method". If you want, you also choose for your data to be overwritten more than once by typing in the desired number in "Deletion operation repeats" (e.g. "3").

 










When you delete a file from now on, every single bit and byte will be overwritten and destroyed with multiple overwrites!
